2017 Hugh Cranford All-Scholastic Team

**For Boys and Girls Ages 16-18 as of August 2, 2017**


Two special awards recognizing the Academic accomplishments and/or Community Service of five Junior Golfers. Golfers have a chance to apply for one or both. There are separate applications for each award category.

Academic and Essay Award-- (4 golfers selected)

Community Service Award- (1 golfer selected)


Applications are NOW being accepted.

The team will consist of golfers between the ages of 16 and 18 as of the last day of the Optimist International Junior Golf Championships (August 2, 2017). Junior golfers selected to the team will receive an automatic exemption into the championships and complimentary registration which includes tournament entry, hotel accommodations and meals.

Junior golfers who are interested in applying should read the steps below and submit the application(s).


Application Steps:

Complete either or both application(s) as indicated

Academic Award only - include a writing sample (250-500 words) on the topic indicated on application.

Community Service Award -- on separate sheet explain total involvement in project also include flyer or newspaper clippings - if available.

Attach supporting documentation. The following items are the only items that will be accepted: current school transcript, most-recent grade report, and test results.

Send the application to the following address. Application must be postmarked no later than April 1, 2017 and received at the St. Louis office no later than April 6:

All applicants will be notified of their status in writing by May 1, 2017. Applicants must also show that they have acceptable tournament experience to be able to compete.

Hugh Cranford
Hugh Cranford served as Executive Director of Optimist International from 1967 to 1986. He was instrumental in starting the Optimist Junior Golf program and in 1978 led the efforts to co-sponsor the Optimist Junior World Golf Championships in San Diego, the forerunner to today’s Optimist International Junior Golf Championships. Cranford passed away August 2014
