Optimist International will administer an annual JOI Scholarship Award Program. Optimist International will provide scholarships (payable in U.S. fund equivalents) totaling $6,000 per year. Final approval of all scholarship award payments for the JOI Governors and Member of Excellence Scholarships to qualified recipients shall rest with the executive director.
A check will be issued in the name of the winner and sent to the educational institution that the winner attends after completion of secondary school.
The payments are to be used for the furtherance of educational purposes through the payment of fees, tuition, housing, etc. and/or the purchase of books, specialized equipment or other education-related materials. Such items might include, but are not limited to, computers, and associated equipment, specialized tools, musical instruments, uniforms, or travel directly related to educational purposes.
Distribution of scholarship funds shall be made in compliance with the legal parameters of the scholarship provisions, as provided to the recipient. These legal provisions constitute a binding agreement which takes precedence over changes in Optimist International policy.
